This free service is for clients who are registered with a GP in the Mid-Essex CCG area ie. the districts of Braintree, Maldon and Chelmsford.
Eating disorders are a range of illnesses characterised by emotional and behavioural difficulties associated with food and weight.
The main types are:
- Anorexia Nervosa
- Bulimia Nervosa
- Binge-Eating Disorder
- OSFED (Otherwise specified food and eating disorders)
Each eating disorder brings its own physical complications.
Not everyone will fit neatly into a specific diagnosis but if you are using food and eating as a way of coping or feeling in/out of control, then you will be able to access our service….struggling with an eating disorder is very frightening and very isolating. The drive to manage on your own can be very stong but it may not be the best thing for you. It is important you get help and support.
Through counselling, you can work with your therapist to begin to take back control of your life and build the strength to work to understand or to deal with those issues that have been pulling you into the eating disorder.
We offer weekly counselling with counsellors who have extensive experience of working with individuals affected.
It is a confidential service: what is discussed in the room will stay in the room unless you are at risk.
We are happy to work alongside other professionals attending to your physical well-being.
For an initial appointment (to see whether counselling is right for you) please telephone, write or email us at the details below, ensuring you quote the project name re-ed:

How much will it cost?
Renew is a charity that offers low cost and sometimes funded professional counselling to the community and surrounding areas.
The actual cost of a counselling session is around £45-£50 but, in many cases, we can subsidise this. Our ethos is to provide as much affordable counselling as we can so, when you come in for assessment or call to discuss your child’s counselling, you will be asked how much you are able to contribute towards the cost. Our fees start at £15 per session and, for people who are unemployed and living on benefits, we can sometimes offer a bursary of £5 per session. The bursaries are limited, are only offered if available and are for up to 24 sessions.
We do actively see support and funding for the counselling we offer. So, on occasion we will have fully funded sessions available to clients fulfilling criteria set out by our funders. When you contact us, we will take you through whatever options are available.
