Here at Renew we appreciate that each person is unique, as is each relationship, and because of this we will all bring our own particular experiences and challenges to the relationship. Sometimes these differences remain unspoken and can go on to develop unexpressed feelings of resentment between the two of you over time. Relationship counselling will offer you a forum to express how you’re feeling in a more constructive and healthier way; and can develop an improved sense of honesty and openness for change to occur.
Who can benefit from Relationship Counselling?
We offer relationship counselling to couples and individuals, of all sexual orientations, who are experiencing difficulties within relationships.
Why do couples come?
To try to resolve difficulties such as
- roles and responsibilities
- closeness and distance
- sexual concerns
What you can expect
Once you have chosen to come along for relationship counselling, it will involve a commitment to regular weekly sessions, which will take place at the same time and day every week; you will always be seen by the same counsellor and this will remain consistent for the duration of the counselling process.
You will be seen by a qualified relationship counsellor in a private and confidential setting, and be encouraged to reflect on your concerns. For counselling to be effective it will involve the two of you speaking about the typical difficulties that occur within your relationship, and finding ways to move forward. For some this might feel awkward, however, looking at past experiences within relationships and how you have coped, you will be able to get a better understanding of how the difficulties have come about; and how these impasses are being recreated in your current relationship.
When clients are committed to the therapeutic process, it can your relationship to develop and grow; you will be able to make conscious decisions and new choices in behaviour that help your relationship to flourish.
How much will it cost?
Renew is a charity that offers low cost and sometimes funded professional counselling to the community and surrounding areas.
The actual cost of a counselling session is around £45-£50 but, in many cases, we can subsidise this. Our ethos is to provide as much affordable counselling as we can so, when you come in for assessment or call to discuss your child’s counselling, you will be asked how much you are able to contribute towards the cost. Our fees start at £15 per session and, for people who are unemployed and living on benefits, we can sometimes offer a bursary of £5 per session. The bursaries are limited, are only offered if available and are for up to 24 sessions.
We do actively see support and funding for the counselling we offer. So, on occasion we will have fully funded sessions available to clients fulfilling criteria set out by our funders. When you contact us, we will take you through whatever options are available.
